Studies on the Nutrition of Blow-fly Larvae I. Structure and Function of the Alimentary Tract

چکیده
THE economic importance of insect nutrition requires no further emphasis as Uvarov (1928) has dealt adequately with this subject. An outstanding physiological problem is the role of micro-organisms in the nutrition of insects, and especially of those insects which feed habitually on decaying matter. It has been variously suggested in such cases that micro-organisms either form the actual food, aid in digestion by their activities, or supply essential accessory substances (vitamins). A classical example is the digestion of meat by blow-fly larvae, and this forms the subject of the present work. The larvae can only take in liquid food as the mouth-parts are not adapted for mastication and Guyenot (1907), by feeding a paste of animal charcoal, has shown

A Histological study on the development of the digestive tract of Caspian salmon, Salmo trutta caspius (Kessleri), from hatching to parr stage
Histological development of digestive tract of the Caspian salmon, Salmo trutta caspius, from hatching to 6 month post-hatching was studied using light microscope. The digestive tract of newly hatched larvae was a simple, undifferentiated tube which continued from mouth to anus. In 10 days post hatching larvae, the alimentary canal became more differentiated and secretion was started activity, ...

متن کاملFMRFamide-Like Immunoreactivity in the Central Nervous System and Alimentary Tract of the Non-Hematophagous Blow Fly, Phormia regina, and the Hematophagous Horse Fly, Tabanus nigrovittatus
FMRFamide-related peptides (FaRPs) are a diverse and physiologically important class of neuropepeptides in the metazoa. In insects, FaRPs function as brain-gut neuropeptides and have been immunolocalized throughout the nervous system and alimentary tract where they have been shown to affect feeding behavior. The occurrence of FMRFamide-like immunoreactivity (FLI) was examined in the central ner...

Objective(s): Gallic acid (GA) is a highly effective antioxidant, which its beneficial effects are well known, but its impact on expression of microRNAs (miRs) following hepatic ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) is not well recognized. Therefore, the current research was designed to specify the beneficial effect of GA on miRs (122 and 34a), liver functional tests, and histopathological alterations bey...
